My Birth Story

The last time I updated you all on my pregnancy was when I was 20 weeks. That now seems like a lifetime ago.

I’ve had a few of you ask for this post so here it is.. My birth story.

Our baby girl Phoebe was born 20th January at 1.19 am weighing 7lb 13oz.

I was up all night tossing and turning on the 18th January with contractions which were every half an hour. I started timing them and throughout the whole day they stayed the same, every half an hour, I had a bath to try and relax me and tried to get on with things to keep my mind occupied.

I went to bed that night and at 3.30 am on 19th January I texted my mum to let her know I was having contractions every 10 minutes, I then woke Jamie up to tell him this is it.

At around 6 am we headed up the hospital with my contractions being only 5 minutes apart at this time.

Once we got up the hospital I was put into a room and they come and checked to see how dilated I was and I was only 2-3cm.

They made me have something to eat and drink, have a bath and go for a walk around the hospital to try and get things going, keep hydrated etc.

They then checked me again at around 11.45 am and there was no change so I was sent home.

When I got home I had another bath to try and relax me and tried to get some sleep but the contractions were getting stronger.

Contractions were getting stronger from around 4 pm and at this point, I didn’t know what I was doing because I was already sent home when my contractions were 5 minutes apart, I didn’t know when the right time to go up the hospital was and I didn’t want to risk being sent home again.

At 5 pm we headed to the hospital again but my contractions were now irregular but were extremely painful.

I was checked around 6.30 pm and was told I was 8cm dilated and was moved into the birthing suite very quickly.

I was then given gas and air and I chose to have pethidine.

They check you every 4hrs and when it reached 10.30 pm the midwife came in and checked me again, I hadn’t dilated anymore so she broke my waters for me at around 10.45 pm and by 11.20 pm I was pushing.

I was pushing for 1hr 59minutes. It felt like an absolute lifetime. I always said throughout my whole pregnancy I do not want a catheter, I heard the midwives talking to each other about fitting one and from hearing them say that I found all my strength and then she was here, 1.19 am.

I was stitched up as I had a 2nd-degree tear, I had a bath and was moved down to the ward at around 4 am. I then managed to have 2 hours sleep and we were told we could leave that day. we waited for the doctor to come round to do their checks to make sure Phoebe was healthy and ready to go home and at 11 am we headed home.

so that was my birth story! We are both so in love with Phoebe and can’t remember a time without her in our lives♥
